How to Wear Colored Contact Lenses?

Many beginners to colored contact lenses may purchase them online but find themselves unsure of how to handle the lenses once they arrive. Even if assisted by store staff during an in-person purchase, self-application at home can pose challenges. So, how should colored contact lenses be worn? Here are several key points summarized for you.

First and foremost, it is crucial to thoroughly understand the usage instructions for colored contact lenses. Prior to wearing, ensure proper cleaning, washing, and inspection. Disinfect tools like your hands and the applicator thoroughly, and remember to take out the lenses in advance, soaking them in contact lens care solution for at least 8 hours. Always check for any damage or debris on the lens surface.

Secondly, patience is key during the process—avoid nervousness or haste. Sensitivity varies from person to person, and those with higher sensitivity may blink, causing the lens to dislodge. When putting on the lens, fully open both upper and lower eyelids to expose the entire pupil before placing the lens into the eye.

Next, it's normal to feel a slight foreign body sensation when initially wearing or resuming wearing after a break. To acclimate your eyes, gradually increase wear time, such as 2 hours on the first day, 4 hours on the second day, 6 hours on the third day, and 8 hours on the fourth day. However, even with highly oxygen-permeable lenses, it's not advisable to exceed 8 hours of daily wear to prevent undue stress on the eyes.

Lastly, if textual instructions are challenging, consider watching instructional videos. Having a friend who wears contact lenses is even better, as you can seek their advice or request their assistance with the application. After a few attempts, your eyes will adapt, making it easier to put on the lenses and reducing the risk of eye injury.
